Getting licensed in California
Selling requires a California life insurance license, issued after a course and exam administered by California Department of Insurance. California requires 12 hours of pre-licensing coursework before the state exam. California cut its pre-licensing requirement from 32 hours to 12 (ethics-only) effective January 2026.
